I ran away for a few days but then came back home because I realised that this wasn't the way to deal with it. I had to stay positive for mum.
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before christmas last year. Christmas wasn't quite the same as usual, everybody was quite quiet. This was probably because they were scared about what might happen in the near future but we tried to enjoy it as much as possible.
A couple of months later my mum started her course of chemotherapy. That took a lot out of her and she was really tired and she felt really ill. Just after she had her third course and was feeling really ill, then I broke down because of the amount of stress and pressure that was being put on me by school and home. I ran away for a few days but then came back home because I realised that this wasn't the way to deal with it. I had to stay positive for mum.
When she finished her chemo, she had a few weeks before her operation to relax. On the day of her operation I felt scared and nervous for her because I worried about what might happen next. School was really hard that day and I kept getting told off by my teachers because I wasn't focussing enough.
When I finally got to see her, I felt relieved because she was alright and was coming home the very next day. Her right arm was very sore and over the next couple of weeks me and my dad had to help my mum a lot.
It is now about a month after her operation and a few days ago my mum was given the all clear and I felt really happy even though there is always the threat of the cancer coming back. I'm just looking forward to spending the summer with her.
If someone you know has cancer and you are worried about them, the main thing is to talk to someone about how you're feeling and try to stay postitive even though it may not always be easy. I was lucky because all my friends were really supportive to me. I just hope the cancer doesen't come back.
