Did you know that teenage smoking permanently damages your lungs?
Research undertaken in 1999 has shown that teenage smoking causes irreversible damage to the lungs. The study looked at the damage to lungs caused by smoking of people who had lung cancer. Researchers found that ex-smokers who started at age 7 through to age 15 had an average of 164 genetic alterations. Ex-smokers who started from ages 15 through to 17 had on average 115 alterations. Ex smokers who started after 20yrs of age had around 81 alterations. This study shows therefore that teenage smokers could be at a high risk of developing lung cancer, even if they later quit.
